ERNIE:
Hi boys and girls! How is everyone today?
TEACHER:
We’re great, Ernie, how are you?
ERNIE:
I’m fine. Hey, guess what?! Pedro is back. Remember Pedro.
PEDRO:
Hi everyone!
TEACHER:
(Get children to say Hi!)
ERNIE:
Say, what are you eating, Pedro?
PEDRO:
Oh, this is a banana. I was going to eat an apple, but I decided to give up apples.
ERNIE:
Why are you giving up apples, Pedro?
PEDRO:
Well, ever since I heard that Eve ate an apple and sin came into the world, I
decided apples must be evil.
ERNIE:
No, Pedro. Apples aren’t evil! Actually, we don’t know what fruit Eve ate. The
Bible just called it fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Eve ate
the fruit of that tree, but we don’t know what kind of fruit it was. Then Adam ate
it too.
PEDRO:
Oh so maybe I should just give up all fruit.
ERNIE:
No, Pedro. You’re missing the point. It doesn’t matter what kind of fruit it was.
God said don’t eat it and Adam and Eve disobeyed. Fruit isn’t bad, but disobeying
God was bad.
PEDRO:
So you mean I don’t have to give up fruit?
ERNIE:
Yes, you don’t have to give up fruit.
PEDRO:
Oh, that’s good because I love fruit, especially watermelon!
ERNIE:
Yeah, that’s my favorite too. But you know that’s a shame about Adam and Eve!
They disobeyed God and then got kicked out of the garden.
PEDRO:
Boy, I bet the world was great before sin came into the world. Adam and Eve
didn’t have to worry about sickness, or being hungry, or Covid, or anything.
ERNIE:
Yeh, and in our lesson today, things got even worse. Adam and Eve had two sons,
Cain and Abel. Cain became jealous of Abel and killed him!!
PEDRO:
No!!!
ERNIE:
Yes!! That’s what happened!!
PEDRO:
Wow! No matter how mad I get at my brother sometimes, I would never want to
kill him!!
ERNIE:
No, me neither. But that’s what happened!! Once sin came into the world things
got worse and worse.
PEDRO:
Oh my!
ERNIE:
But you know what the good news is?
PEDRO:
What?
ERNIE:
The good news is that God started revealing His plan that one day He would send
His Son to be the Savior of the world. Jesus came and took the punishment for
our sin so if we believe in Him, we can go to heaven to live with Him one day.
PEDRO:
Well, I believe in Jesus and I asked Him to forgive me of my sins. I know I’m going
to heaven one day to live with Him.
ERNIE:
Yeh, me too! I sure hope all the boys and girls here have done that.
PEDRO:
Yeah, I hope so too.
TEACHER:
How about it boys and girls? If you’d like to know for sure that you are going to
heaven one day to live with Jesus, you can pray and tell Him you believe in Him
and ask Him to forgive you of your sins.
Let’s pray. (Teacher prays.)
ERNIE:
Well, Pedro and I have to go.
TEACHER:
Pedro, I hope you’ll come back and visit us soon.
PEDRO:
Oh I will. Good-bye everyone.
ERNIE:
Good-bye.
Jacob and Esau
Sibling Rivalry
PEDRO:
Hi Walter! Hey, I saw you last week at your soccer game. You were great!
WALTER:
Oh thanks, Pedro! So what’s new with you?
PEDRO:
Oh you know my brother, Daniel.
WALTER:
Yeah, I know Daniel.
PEDRO:
Well, we just had a fight!
WALTER:
A fight?? You mean you were really hitting each other.
PEDRO:
No we weren’t hitting each other, but I wanted to hit him. I’m really mad
at him.
WALTER:
Why? What did Daniel do?
PEDRO:
Oh he’s always messing with my stuff! I had a kite and I really liked flying
it. Well anyway, it was sitting on a chair and Daniel threw a book on my kite and
tore it. Now it won’t fly anymore.
WALTER:
Oh Pedro, I’m sorry to hear that.
PEDRO:
Yeah, I told him he was a terrible kid. I said, “How could you do that to
me?” He said he was sorry. He said he didn’t mean to, but I’m still mad at him!
WALTER:
Oh Pedro, I’m sure he didn’t mean to tear your kite.
PEDRO:
It doesn’t matter. He should be more careful. I’m never speaking to him
again.
WALTER:
That’s terrible!!
PEDRO:
I mean it. I wish I didn’t have a brother.
WALTER:
Oh Pedro, you don’t mean that. I’d love to have a brother, but I’m an
only child.
PEDRO:
Oh I’d love to be an only child. You’d have mom and dad’s attention all
the time and you don’t have a pesky brother bothering you.
WALTER:
Well it’s nice being an only child, but sometimes I wish I had a brother or
sister. That would give me someone to play with when things get boring.
PEDRO:
Well you can have my brother any time you want him!
WALTER:
I don’t think your parents are going to give us your little brother. And
besides, you know you really care about him. You know you’d be upset if you
didn’t have him.
PEDRO:
Yeah I guess so.
WALTER:
Were you listening to our lesson today about Jacob and Esau? Those two
brothers got really mad at each other and didn’t see each other for a very long
time. I think they really missed each other and in the end, they made up with each
other and became friends again. I really think that’s what Jesus would want you to
do, Pedro.
PEDRO:
You really think so?
WALTER:
Yes, I do. I think Jesus would want you to go right home and tell your
brother you’re sorry you got so mad at him.
PEDRO:
I don’t know. Do you really think so?
WALTER:
Yes, I do.
PEDRO:
What do you think boys and girls? Do you think I should go home and
apologize to my brother?
(Teacher, get children to answer.)
PEDRO:
Okay. Maybe I should.
WALTER:
Hey kids, do you have fights with your siblings?
PEDRO:
What’s a sibling?
WALTER:
A sibling is a brother or sister. Do you boys and girls ever fight with your
brothers or sisters?
(Teacher, get children to answer.)
WALTER:
Well you know it makes Jesus very sad when we fight, especially with
our families. Some of you need to learn how to say, “I’m sorry.”
PEDRO:
Yeah I’m going to go home right now and tell my brother I’m sorry. I know
Jesus would like me to do that.
WALTER:
Yeah, and you know who else will be happy?
PEDRO:
Who?
WALTER:
Your mom and dad.
PEDRO:
Yeah, I know they will. So I’m on my way right now. Bye everyone!!
WALTER:
Hey, come back soon, Pedro.
PEDRO:
Okay! See ya!!
